Solar Market in India

The Indian Government moved a step closer towards adopting solar power by launching the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission solar policy in 2009. The Government unveiled a 19 billion dollar plan to promote 20 GW of solar power by 2020.

Various other states have followed by adopting their own solar policy making way for heavy investments in the solar sector. Significant Improvements in technology followed by declining costs of solar panels has lead to a reduction in capital costs in setting up a power plant. Investors can now enjoy a healthy ROI.

China is a major contributing factor to the lower module prices. Heavy subsidies from the Chinese government have helped module manufacturers increase their capacity thereby reducing costs. India has a long way to go in manufacturing and we can only scale up provided subsidies from the Government.
